Okay Bengals fans. You got your first playoff appearance in 15 years. Will you look past the nonsense?
I say no.
Whenever an issue arrises with a Bengals player now....Bengals fans just shake their head, maybe make a joke, but rubs it off because their Bengals are good again. I even get the "everyone has problem guys on their teams." Maybe so. But only the Bengals are openly auditioning them.
The last two NFL drafts have produced enough problem guys for the Bengals to get their fill for a while.
In 2005, the Bengals drafted WR Chris Henry. Since Henry has been here, he's been arrested FOUR TIMES in a seven month period. They also drafted LB Odell Thurman, a rookie of the year candidate last year. Thurman will be suspended for the first four games this season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. In the 2006 draft, the Bengals selected DL Frostee Rucker, who is facing a spousal abuse and vandalism charge in Los Angeles, and LB AJ Nicholson who was arrested recently for theft and was kicked off Florida State's team [a feat that is] for sexual misconduct prior to the Orange Bowl. Both Henry and Nicholson could face their own suspensions by the NFL.
So, to build on that, the Bengals drafted LB Ahmad Brooks in the NFL Supplemental Draft on Thursday. Brooks was arrested for possession of the hippie lettuce in 2003 and has failed multiple drug tests since. He was kicked of the University of Virginia's football team this past March....which is what led him to the Supplemental draft. The fact that Thurman's suspension was looming could have led the Bengals to draft Brooks.
The Bengals were the lone team to draft a player...and it costs them a 3rd round pick next year.
