Tony Stewart Wins Nextel Cup Championship!!!

Last year, Kurt Busch won the Nextel Chase For the Cup....even though if the old system was in place, Jeff Gordon would have been champ.  No such controversy this year.

Tony Stewart dominated.

Ever since late July, Stewart took a hold of the points lead and only momentarily was it ever really challenged.  Fellow stars Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon didn't even make The Chase.  Defending champ Kurt Busch imploded.  Preseason favorite Jimmie Johnson didn't have the juice.  Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards gave it a good run....but fell a tad short [but they provided a glimpse into what could be a great future for NASCAR].

There will be a plethora of drivers switching seats and some names won't be around anymore.  The Diecast Dude's (Mostly) NASCAR Blah Blah Blog prepares for the "offseason" of racing:

"NASCAR goes home now, taking a moment to contemplate the season now past.  The orange championship banners currently flapping in the Homestead breeze will shortly be furled to fly again in Daytona this February; this now two-time champion we are carefully instructed to love seeking to maintain his extreme makeover tour.  Gordon and Earnhardt fans will spend the holidays from Thanksgiving through Valentine's Day fervently hope for a return to form; the former taking heart in a strong set of runs after the Chase was abandoned.  A dizzying circus of driver changes will be absorbed and digested, fans of same making plans to ask Santa for new wardrobes this Christmas.  The beautiful insanity of the sport we love will be quiet for a few weeks seeking to imitate an eternity, but in the end once again returning to the waiting embrace of the faithful who will come alive when the engines once again come to life."

Again, congrats to the champ!!

P.S.  This marks the 2nd straight year [my only two years] in which my fantasy Nascar team had the eventual champion.  So, all your drivers need to keep an eye on my squad next year!!
