Sportz Assassin In Atlanta

SPORTZ ASSASSIN ON HIATUS.  I will be in Atlanta over the next few days [I'll be checking out my Lakers taking on the Hawks].  So my blog will sit stagnant for a few days.  Enjoy these takes I've thrown up here.

SPORTZASSASSIN IS PERFECT.  Don't look now...but I was a perfect 13-0 on Sunday's games!!  I had Chicago winning in Baton Rouge.  I had Carolina blasting Tampa.  I had the Skins smacking aside Philly.  Go to SPORTZ ON SKINS to see my picks!!  And not just PERFECT in picking the winners....but I did a pretty good job with the scores as well.

REDSKINS 17-10.  I picked Skins 24-17.  Same spread...but just an extra TD on both sides.
FALCONS 17-10.  I picked Falcons 16-9.  Just one point off each way.
VIKINGS 27-14.  I picked Vikes 21-10.  Not perfect...btut not far off either.
CHARGERS 31-26.  I picked Bolts 24-13.  Not really that great.
JAGUARS 21-14.  I picked Jags 23-21.  Nearly got Jax's score right...and overestimated the Texans.
BENGALS 21-9.  I picked Bengals 20-16.  See above.
BROWNS 20-14.  I picked Browns 10-7.  Well, I got it HALF right.  Both teams doubled my score.
PANTHERS 34-14.  I picked Panthers 26-17.  Boy does Simms suck.
CHIEFS 27-23.  I picked Chiefs 34-28.  Pretty close.
BEARS 20-17.  I picked Bears 23-20.  Got the margin correct, but gave both teams an extra FG.
SEAHAWKS 33-19.  I picked Seahawks 27-20.  Missed Zona by a point....and Seattle by 6.
GIANTS 24-9.  I picked Giants 30-10.  Missed Niners by a point....and over did New Yorlk by 6.
STEELERS 20-10.  I picked Steelers 30-20.  Correct margin...but 10 pts off on each.

CURTIS MARTIN SCORES 100TH TOUCHDOWN.  And the Jets didn't stop the game to have a huge celebration.  Maybe he should beat up a linebacker and then challenge the entire team as Terrell Owens did because the Eagles didn't celebrate his 100th TD.  Curtis = class.......Owens = jerk.

CAN'T WAIT TO GET TO CHARLOTTE!!  Charlotte, my hometown, christened the new Charlotte Bobcats Arena [ah, Charlotte....still lame on those arena names].  It looks cool!  The Coliseum was an out-of-the way place on the other side of town.  This new building is smack in uptown Charlotte and looks as if it will bring the life to "nightlife" in the city.  Hopefully I will get to check out the new digs this Christmas.

SPORTZ TOP 12 COLLEGE POLL
1-TEXAS.  Again, I think they are the most complete team out there.
2-USC.  The Trojans look to be hitting their stride.
3-MIAMI.  The defense is legit!  But with Moss out for the season, the Canes could find themselves relying on it a bit more.
4-ALABAMA.  They have a whale of a game this weekend against...
5-LSU.  See #4.
6-NOTRE DAME.  I still don't see how they fell so far behind Michigan State earlier in the year.
7-PENN STATE.  Okay.  Okay.  I get it now.  You guys are really good!
8-VIRGINIA TECH.  Like Fred Winters said...."Wha' Happened??"
9-OREGON.  There.  Now someone has talked about them.
10-GEORGIA.  My BCS case.  If there was a playoff...then UGA would still be in the championship hunt despite Shockley's injury.
11-OHIO STATE.  Starting to come alive again.  Just in time to lose.
12-TCU.  Well, I put them here as the "Best Non-BCS Team."  They are killing everyone in their first MWC season.

MY WIFE IS A SURVIVOR!!!  Check out my wife's Survivor Blog [Survivor: Guatemala - Bravenet Web Journal]

VIVI AWARD LOSER.  Apparantly, I didn't win the Vivi Award for best Sports Blog.  Aw shucks.  Someone please talk me off the ledge!!!  In all seriousness...congrats to Monponsett for winning.  And thanks for the kind words in your acceptance speech.  To be honest....Stacy you are right....I couldn't give a crap about winning that.  Like I said in a previous post, my AWARD has been the respect and kind words that bloggers such as you and the others who comprise AOL's Sports Blog Mount Rushmore give to me.  What do I honestly care that people who have never read my blog think of me??  I mean, I don't need the head lady at "My Cute Wittle Cat Blog" wanting me to link her to my blog.  I am amazed that anyone reads my blog....let alone have a steady base of readers.  And, honestly, I am not trying to offend anyone associated with the Vivi Awards....really.  With or without those "awards"...I know where I stand in this blogging community.  And that's the most important thing to me.

NEW YORK KNICKS ARE BACK TO THEIR OLD TRICKS.  Maybe it won't work out.  Larry Brown may be losing his team already.  Stephon Marbury is already lacking confidence in Brown....as they aren't seeing eye-to-eye.  Also, there was a fight in their locker room this past week.

NAUGHTY PANTHERS CHEELEADERS TRY OUT FOR "THE L WORD".  Read my take and the story here....Panthers Cheerleaders Caught Having Sex With Each Other In Tampa Nightclub Bathroom

TERRELL OWENS SUSPENDED.  If the Eagles had anynads...they'd get rid of him now.  And by "get rid of him", I mean suspend him for as long as possible....then led him stay on the inactive list for the rest of the season.  You cannot have this guy come back....no way.  The Philly franchise was a pretty darn good operation until TO came along.  Since that point, he's essentially been a distraction to the point that the Eagles look like they have King Kong riding their backs.  It isn't worth it.  Look, the NFL is supposed to be the league of interchangable parts.  Important players miss time.  So if the Eagles are serious....they'd just pay Owens to stay away from his teammates.

NBA ROOKIES GETTING RUN.  So...which rookies are teams relying on the most?  Well, top pick Andrew Bogut is of course getting his time, averaging 33 minutes a game.  Chris Paul is 2nd.  The surpirse is at 3rd place...Jose Calderone.  Quick...who does he play for???  The Answer.....Toronto.

SPORTZ NFL TOP 10
1-COLTS.  Even if they lose on Monday...like BDP, they are still #1.
2-BRONCOS.  The best of the rest....and theydid get some rest.
3-GIANTS.  Right now, the NFC's best team.
4-STEELERS.  Plug in any running back and QB and they still win.
5-FALCONS.  Not an offensive powerhouse, but they do enough.
6-PANTHERS.  Carolina has the 2nd longest winning streak [5]
7-BENGALS.  Again...I am still not sold onthem beating a really good team.
8-PATRIOTS.  Loss to Indy puts them 4-4.
9-SEAHAWKS.  Shaun Alexander looks ready to cash in.
10-COWBOYS.  Still needs to find ways to close out games.

SPORTZ NFL BOTTOM 5.
1-TEXANS.  I sadly regret placing them as my preseason "surprise team"
2-PACKERS.  Imaging how bad this team would be had Favre retired.
3-NINERS.  Paging Tim Rattay.
4-TITANS.  Fell back to earth after a warm start.
5-RAVENS. Whathappened to Jamal Lewis??

SPORTZ NFL BIGGEST SURPRISES
1-BEARS.  We knew they had a tough defense...but theyhave a2-game divisionlead with a 4th round rookie QB.
2-REDSKINS.  I picked them to go 6-10.  If they go 1-7 the rest of the way, they'll reach it.
3-GIANTS.  A team that had injuries and a rookie QB to deal with last year has finally come of age.
4-BENGALS.  Carson Palmer has grown leaps and bounds in a year.  And this team just keeps getting takeaways.
5-SEAHAWKS.  A team who went a bit of an overhaul is playing better than ever.

SPORTZ NFL BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENTS.
1-JETS.  This was a vogue Super Bowl contender.  Now, due to injuries, they are AFC fodder.
2-VIKINGS.  We all knew they'd miss Randy Moss a little...but not this much.
3-CARDINALS.  Many "experts" had this team as the next big thing.
4-SAINTS.  They aren't as bad as their 2-7 record indicates.
5-CHARGERS.  They are a good team...but they've blown more games than Brad Lidge.

Normally, I'd feel badly about speaking for someone else, but I had a pretty good idea about how you'd react to a Vivi... which is why I was rooting for you to win it.
