Penguins Coach Rips Team

Rarely do you see a head coach completely dress down his players in public.  Maybe a verbal jab here....a cryptic message there....sometimes calling out a guy.  But rarely does a coach just completely throw his team under the bus.

Well, Michel Therrien did.  Therrin is the head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins...who lost Tuesday night to Edmonton 3-1.   His Pens are the worst team in the Eastern Conference [only Columbus and St. Louis have less points].....and only St. Louis was won less than the 11 games that Pittsburgh has coralled.  They've given up more goals than anyone in the NHL.  And they've lost 8 of the 11 games since Therrin has taken the Pens job.

And there is what Michel Therrin is bent about.  His defense.  He calls them out in a meet and greet with the press after the loss to the Oilers.  Below is his statements....

-"I'm not impressed.  It's a pathetic performance. Half of the team doesn't care."

-"It's like, are we going to be happy to play eight minutes?  I'm not going to be happy to play eight minutes.   What those guys will say if we take 50 percent of their salary because they only played for 50 percent of the time?"

-"That defensive squad, I'm really starting to believe their goal is to be the worst defensive squad in the league.  And they're doing such a great job at being the worst.  They turn the puck over, they have no vision, they're soft. I've never seen a bunch of defensemen soft like this."

-"There's not one guy who was close to doing something.  Maybe Max Talbot, at the end, with 1 second left."

-"They pretend to care, but I know they don't care. ... I'm so disappointed about lots of guys. Very disappointed, because they don't care."
