Sportz Assassin's East Region Preview
TEAM TO BEAT: Virginia. The Cavaliers not only won the ACC regular season, but then went on to win the conference tournament. I know many just didn't see UVa as a top seed, but this is a solid team that rarely beats itself. I always say they just squuuuueeeeze wins out.
TEAM THAT WILL WIN THE REGION: Michigan State. I have been on the Spartans bandwagon all year long. Even as they were losing games and slumping. They are built for this tournament.
TEAM TO WATCH FOR (LESS THAN A NO. 3 SEED): Michigan State. This is my Final Four pick, and they just happen to be a No. 4 seed.
YOUR CINDERELLA: Providence. North Carolina is ripe for an upset. Iowa State did win the Big 12 tournament, but I think Providence can take them. Bryce Cotton will get his name in lights this postseason.
WORST SEEDING ERROR: North Carolina. I know they had some really bad losses early in the season, but since mid January, their only losses were to Duke and Pitt and that happened in the last week. Should have they have been a better seed than Cincinnati? Maybe.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE: Villanova/UConn. Former Big East rivals both get to spend their first weekend in Buffalo. If they face off in the 3rd round, the winner will get to go to Madison Square Garden. Feeling nostalgic, yet?
MUST WATCH GAME: North Carolina vs Providence. It is an interesting game between two teams that are both capable of a big run in this tournament as well as a flame out in this game. The Tar Heels have the better team in most statistics but sometimes can't put it together for an entire game.
MUST WATCH (POTENTIAL) SECOND ROUND GAME: Michigan State vs Cincinnati. I really wanted to say Villanova vs UConn for the ol' Big East rivals, but this Spartans-Bearcats game should be great. They are both workaholic teams with some star power. Both experienced teams that should slug it out.
