My NBA All Star Ballot

VOTE FOR THE NBA ALL STAR GAMEHERE

EASTERN CONFERENCE

CENTER: Shaquille O’Neal [Heat]

He is the best center in the NBA. You could probably add up all of the other centers and they still wouldn’t equal one Shaq. And this is his worst season statistically. Yet he slimmed down and is deferring to Wade to benefit the team. Wait…he couldn’t do that with….oh never mind. The next guy….Ben Wallace.

FORWARDS: Grant Hill [Magic] and Emeka Okafor [Bobcats]

You say ‘what‘?? Yep…that’s my picks. Just look at the ballot and you’ll understand. Grant Hill is having an amazing comeback season…amazing enough that I’d vote for a Dookie and not a Carolina guy [Vince]. I picked Emeka Okafor because I don’t believe in Vince, Jermaine O’Neal has missed most of the season and there is no one else I feel comfortable voting for. Okafor is the leader for ROY and is playing his best ball for the expansion Bobcats. He is 3rd in boards…behind the two guys I picked for the West forwards…and he‘s the top dog in offensive boards. He’s had a double-double in each of his last 12 games. The next guy….Richard Jefferson.

GUARDS: Dwayne Wade [Heat] and LeBron James [Cavaliers]

Wade is 5th in the East in assists….LeBron James is 8th in the East. Both are having excellent sophomore seasons and both are legit MVP candidates. The next guy….Allen Iverson.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

CENTER: Yao Ming [Rockets]

I looked for every reason not to pick Yao….but I couldn’t find one. Sure, Yao is soft and is inconsistent. But he’s the only Western center that could put up 30 points on you in a given night. I can’t see anyone else doing that. The next guy…Brad Miller.

FORWARDS: Kevin Garnett [Wolves] and Tim Duncan [Spurs]

Exact opposite of the East. You could select Dirk Nowitzki or Amare Stoudamire and you’d get no argument from me. But these two guys bring everything to the table. Defense, offense, rebounding and nice passers. They also win. And despite the great seasons by others, these guys are still doing their thing. The next guy….Dirk Nowitzki.

GUARDS: Kobe Bryant [Lakers] and Steve Nash [Suns]

Steve Nash leads the NBA in assists. Kobe is 2nd among Western players in assists….not to mention 2nd in the NBA in points per game. Nash is averaging 15.7 ppg and is the leader of a team that holds the top record in the NBA. Kobe is struggling to find a way to lift his team up.…but he’d doing fine with his game. The next guy….Ray Allen.

I can't get past Kobe's troubles to vote for him to represent the NBA.  His character is way too loose for people to put him in the spot light for children to watch.  No Kobe for me.

I never saw Kobe pass off a difficult three to Shaq, while they were in the Lakers neither.

TO: weinerdennise

If you read carefully, he did mention A.I(after Wade and LBJ). So chill out Homer!

Good picks all around, Sportz.  And anyone who has issues with Kobe Bryant's selection is obviously more of a fan of gossip than of basketball.

Excellent choices, Sportz. My only disagreement is with Garnett over Nowitski, and I guess that's a matter of personal preference for Dirk's style and grace over Garnett's power.
All in all, though,  first-rate choices.

Mr Turnover (Kobe I team Bryan?)

I can't  understand why people think Kobe is such a terrible person because he made a bad decision to have sex with a golddigger. How was he to know she was  seeking fame and fortune at his expense? It was a terrible thing that he did but Shaq (and many other men) have kids by various women all over the place and they are perceived as "shining stars." To say that they are soo good and Kobe is soo bad is a mystery to me. Just because the women didn't yell "rape" after consenting to sex with them doesn't make them "Mr. Clean." If it's ok for Shaq to be a role model, then why is it not ok for Kobe? Is it because Shaq spread kids here and there but didn't get sued?

how could you pick okafor over rj look what okafor did vs the nets and look what rj did all year

Anonymous said...

Why is everyone always talking bad about Kobe.  I mean yea he did a stupid thing, but he made a mistake like everyone else does.  I mean everyonee percieves majic johnson as a god, and as a role model, but he had sex with tons of women and contracted aids from it, and yet no one is shunning him.  Also, eveyone is saying how he destroyed the lakers.  Well if you were in his position and everyone calling you a sidekick, wouldn't you want a chance to prove yourself.  I mean the lakers may suck now, but wait untill they get used to each other, and maybe get another good player to help the team.

AFTER ALL AI HAS MADE 8/33 SHOTS EVERY NIGHT Y NOT MARBURY WHOS AVERGING 21PPG AND 8.5APG HELLOO THE GAME AINT ALWAYS ABOUT SCORING

SHAQ AND KOBE WERE UNSTOPPABLE

You must be smoking ........Ray Allen is killing up in the Rainy City and they have a great record....how can he not make your team....hill is a great story but not playing that goood....But his point gruard Stevie Franchise how did he not make your list ...loook at the numbers

Despite all of his troubles off the court, Kobe Bryant is the best player in basketball. HANDS DOWN!  Yes Lebron, Allen, A.I. and T-Mac are great players and they all have tremendous offensive skills, but Kobe bryant has that and another skill you dont hear about when it comes to those other guys.....GREAT DEFENSE!!!!!

Anonymous said...

All great picks except okafor...if you look at who he'd be playing against you're looking at either duncan or garnett...he can't handle either one....even tho he's not having a great year, and even tho I'm not a pistons fan by any means, I'd put Sheed in there for some defense, inside and outside shooting...other than that...let's put those two teams on the court and watch the fun...

Anonymous said...

oh, and for those who are AI fans...to put him in is to take away one of the two most unselfish players in the game at the guard position, Wade or LeBron...and that leads to yes, more points for AI but for certain, less points, looks, and wins for the team...it is after all a team game..

Anonymous said...

KObe and Shaq should of never split! Kobe will be the best palyer in the NBA!

Anonymous said...

How can anyone vote for Kobe? The only reason his stats look so great this year, is that he had everyone removed from the team that was holding him back. He is the biggest spoiled brat in sports and should sit home watching the All-Star game. If (and it looks good right now) plays, he'll be the guy begging for the balll all day. Give me a break, they should just call the team the Kobe Bryant Lakers. Can't wait until he's old enough to retire from the sport.

Shaq is a no brainer.  As for forwards- no on deserves it better than Antawn Jamison, Grant Hill deserves to start with him.  I say Richard Jefferson is 3rd.  I agree O'neal and Carter should not even be considered its a disgrace.  I feel Kurt Thomas of New York has been more consistent than Okafor. Although its a pipedream, I'm hoping he will get some all defensive recognition in the spring.  But since Larry Brown is probably the coach, Rasheed Wallace and/or Tayshaun Prince will probably get selected. Guards are tough too.  I have to go with Wade and James as well.  Francis and Marbury are biting at their heels.  ALthough Iverson is 3rd in scoring and his assists are up, i don't think he has a impact like like these four.  Paul Pierce and MIchael Redd  might not make it either.

West- MIng and MIller right on.
Forwards- Duncan and Garnett.  It's tough for Stoudemire, NOwitzki, Brand, Gasol and all these Guys
As for guards- I know Kobe is having a superb year.  His assists are up, his adrenaline is running high and he is actually playing defense, But Ray Allen is shooting off of the planet right now.  Allen and Nash.

How bout the people who are talking trash on Iverson just be quiet untill you know what you are talking about. First of all he has set a record about two weeks ago for scoring the most points in a three game spand. He had had super night and the games he hasnt scored alot and only scored liek 20 he has been passing the ball great. Iam not saying Wade or James are not good quards they are the future but Iverson is still around and shood pair of with Lebron James for the Eastern Conference guards. Wade should play alot tho almost has long as Iverson should.
Thank you,

alright.......1st okafor is still young meaning he will have more opportunities later on and second, he is having a mediocre year, so calm down with that pick.  The forwards should be ANTAWN JAMISON, who is playing great basketball and has done so since the start of his career, and Grant Hill who has made a great comeback. As for center Shaq has that on lock, let Ben follow.  For gaurds, it should be iverson and marbury, they have been doing up the NBA non-stop for years and they proved in the 2002 All Star Game, then it should be followed by wade, Lebron can play at a small forward.  In the west i choose Yao, Duncan, pick Nowitizki over Garnett, who while may be fierce is soft compared to others in his position, followed webber, RAY ALLEN OVER KOBE, who by the way can't handle a team on his own and should stop trying to play like mj, it can'y be replicated.  McGrady follows Allen, and KObe could play 3rd string.  Nash gets the honor at point.

Anonymous said...

kobe is the best player. Mj had his time, but kobe plays the best defense and spectacular offense, so he has my vote as the most valuable NBA player.

Anonymous said...

kobe is still the one

Anonymous said...

How can you leave out Amare Stoudamire the way he's playing? dgood648

Anonymous said...

in the west u got dirk and amare at forwards, duncan off the bench. what is it going to take until someone notices randolph, definetely a all star next year.
at guards u got allen and mcgrady.  and surprise, at center I want theo ratliff. you are crazy if u dont believe he is the best defensive center in the L.
in the east i want hill and okafor. emeka deserves it for giving the bobcats a decent team. u got ai and lebron at guards and diesel at center.

Anonymous said...

Rather than Wade, I would start Marbury.  He's been all that you can ask for the Knicks.  He has New York in first place.

Anonymous said...

I can't vote for KOBE since he will hog the ball.  We need a guard that plays like a guard not to mention the fact that he has personal problems that I don't want my children around.  Lebron is a great guard and player as well.  He will pass KOBE in a year or two.  Timmy D is the best foward around.  I would like to  see someone other than Kevin G who can play with Timmy better that Kevin could.  MJ is still the one to beat, not KOBE.  Be like Mike not KOBE.

Anonymous said...

I like those picks.  For these Kobe haters, ask the coaches from all the other teams who would be the top five players in the league and see what name will continue popping up........KOBE!  Enough said!

Anonymous said...

I think anyone who is talking bad about Kobe are haters. Now Im not saying hes the best but he deserves some respect because what he is doing. Now think about it you think its easy to play basketball in the nba.Now show the future hall of famer some respect.

KOBE, # 1,sorry non Laker dude's

On your East picks. Grant Hill an All Star ???? Yeah, 6 years ago. Got to have Jermaine in that spot. Also drop Lebron and put in A.I. He is truly the Answer. In the west. Drop Kobe for Ray Allen. He is a much better shooter and team player. Otherwise, your picks look good.

Anonymous said...

Not Kobe but Ray Allen.  They need a team player not a ball hog.  The rest of the teams will pass but AI should be there.

Anonymous said...

Give me a break.  Kobe definitely deserves the start.  He's one of the top guards in the NBA.

Anonymous said...

Anyone who does not understand that LeBron James will play like Michael Jordon within 5 years, really does not know basketball.  When he is 25, he will be unstoppable.

Anonymous said...

Kobe - shooting 39% now that Shaq is commanding double teams and leading the league in turnovers.  He has been the most over-hyped player in the history of the NBA.  Is he good- YES, is he great - NO.  Had Kobe never played with Shaq he would be the 2nd coming of World B Free.  Jordan in his worst year shot 47% and never averaged more than 3.5 TO's a game.  Kobe teams will hover at mediocrity for the rest of his career, he would be better suited to play for the And 1 team.

Come on guys Tmac  out there can run point by the way KObe sucks shaq was L A

Anonymous said...

How can you pick Kobe over Ray Allen? Kobe is just a ball hog and his team sucks. Ray has led his team to the 2nd best record in the league, he deserves more respect!

I believe that these ALL-STARS that are chosen, are the ones that definitly desreve the starting position in th 2005 ALL-STAR game. The only candidate i dont agree to is Grant Hill, because after all his years in the league, now is when he finally wakes up and starts to be what he was expected to be like 8 years ago. I think that Vince Carter was the one who should have been chosen instead... He isn't a 5 time all star for no reason.  But other than that ,this years ALL-STAR game will full of surprises now that the "Diesel"(Shaq) is now in the East.

Tim Duncan r u serious. yea spurs are doing good this year but, he can not put nothing like Stodamarie did the other day 50pts 15 rebounds c'mon

Havent you morons figured it out yet? Damn, how many times does one have to explain logic to you simple minds? Throughout history professional sports "All star" contests ARE MADE UP ENTIRELY OF ATHLETES THAT EQUAL, (ARE YOU IDIOTS READY?) T-E-L-E-V-I-S-I-O-N  R-A-T-I-N-G-S!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get a clue and get a life already. This isn't the Olympics, DUH.
