COLD WAR II......OVER!!!!!

             

It must be July.  Because at this point in the sports world...we have to find alternate things to discuss since there is nothing else going on.

Sure, there is baseball....but the All Star Break is looming and the season it at that point where it's old enough to lose that new car smell....but not so far along that we start getting pennant fever.  Honestly, we care more about who's on [errrr....I mean who is off] the All Star team.

There is NASCAR in it's mid-point....but that is a weekend thing and not everyone cares about it.  Same goes to Wimbledon.  No offense, but I keep forgetting it is on.  I do know that Venus won the women's title. 

                                       

Everything else is just in a holding pattern.  We are all getting ready for the NFL camps to open up.  We all got our Fantasy Football sheets all scribbled up so we can gloat when one of our "sleepers" goes off....even if our "locks" bite the big one. 

The NBA just ended the Finals and the draft....so there is that kind of "let's take a break" feel.  Yeah, message boards, websites and my blogs are still burning with the free agency talk....but it is just mainly rumors and hopes.  The NHL is still gone.  The NCAA isn't really relevant right now.  Schools are out....and moving to new conferences.  Once mid-August rolls around...we'll have our preseason polls done.

So...we have these alternate stories to keep us busy.  Two have exploded over, really, nothing.

The first one is RING-GATE.  Did Putin steal a Patriots Super Bowl ring?  Was it glasnost at it's finest??  Or was it really a gift.  After everyone has had their panties in a bunch over this....like it was the Cuban Missle Crisis....Kraft comes back to the USA from his hot air balloon and tells everyone it was a gift.  WELL THAT IS NO FUN!!!!  We are America...and we want to hate everyone!!  I mean, how great of a soap opera plot is the Russian president stealing a Super Bowl ring from the PATRIOTS!?!?!?

Talking heads were trying to break this thing down.  And what makes this worse is that it wasn't just a sports story...but a politcal one too.  So we get to see the News and Sports departments work together to blow up a dead story.

The next biggest crime was Kenny Rogers cramming a camera down some guys throat.  He was dead wrong....deserves his suspension...but this isn't murder people!!!!  Sports talk radio makes it sound like this guy is sniffing coke off a hooker's butt!!!  With the myriad of dumb things athletes do nowadays....does extended footage of Rogers pacing over to smack a camera down really matter?

             

I work 2nd shift...and one of the beauties about it is I get to miss the garbage.  I honestly know nothing about the Michael Jackson case accept (a) Jay Leno testified....(b) Macaully Caulkin testified and (c) Jacko was acquitted.  I honestly know nothing else....and I like it that way. 

But, I got the July 4th Weekend off....and I have to read about a couple kids in New Jersey who died in a trunk.....sharks going Freddy Kruger on teens in Florida......oh, and 646-lb catfish was caught in Thailand.  Well, that is kinda sports related.  Maybe BassCenter can get a hold of it.
