Florida Wins Another College Championship

                        Chris Leak

I live right outside Cincinnati, so there are quite a few Ohio State fans in my vicinity.  As a matter of fact, my next door neighbor flies a huge Ohio State flag outside his home on game days.

For the 2nd time in about six weeks....he's taking it down in shame.

The first time was when my UNC Tar Heels smacked down his then-#1 ranked Basketball Buckeyes.  Now comes a spectacular dismantling in the biggest college football game of the year.

Florida beat The Ohio State University, 41-14, in the BCS Championship game.

Everything about this game was amazing.

Florida was chided since the BCS games were announced for being in this game.  Florida was a pretty good team that navigated through a beast of a schedule with only one loss.   Even then, Michigan fans whined that they should've been in this game - not Florida [needless to say, Michigan was spanked by USC a week ago in the Rose Bowl].

Ohio State was one of only two schools to go undefeated this year [Boise State was the other], housed the Heisman Trophy winner, and would be playing in their third #1 v #2 game of the season.  Ohio State already took care of Texas and Michigan in those games....and many felt Florida was the next one to go down.

Oops.

Chris Leak, from my high school, Independence High in Charlotte NC, played about as great as you could ask him to play.  He didn't go Peyton Manning on the Buckeyes....but, then again, how many rings does Peyton have at either Tennessee or Indy??

Even more amazing was how ineffective Heisman winner Troy Smith was.  How does the Heisman winner complete just 4-of-14 passes for 35 yds?  No TDs and a pick??  Unreal.

I was one of the people who claimed that the SEC couldn't win a National Championship because the conference was too tough to allow a team to get into the title game.  If not for USC losing to UCLA at the endof the season, they still wouldn't have.  But Florida made the most of it and went out as victors, dominators and as champions.

Chris Leak, you've done Charlotte proud!

Those guys proved to everyone that they deserved it. Instead of all the talk about Michigan deserving another shot, Florida took advantage of their first one and made it worth their while.
